Observe the observant

Today was the first official work day for teachers, faculty, and staff a.k.a "Team MPS." It is always fun to sit back during the first faculty meeting of the school year and check out the new faces...first job, new to that school, new to the county, new to public schools, etc. The new ones are way fun to watch because they have these giddy little grins on their faces the whole time, and they laugh at every joke, and they raise their hand at every rhetorical question. Trust me, I'm not being cynical...and I am not saying that I don't share the giddy grin, but there is something different about a person and the way they look before you actually get to know them and before you learn what is really going on in their little heads.

I agree. Even though I am new to the school that I will be at this year, I think that the new teachers are fun to watch. Mostly because they truly have no idea what they are in for! I can remember the rose colored glasses that I wore just at few years ago as I started my first teaching job...I am really glad that those glasses have been put away!

Where are you teaching now? I know you moved schools last year, but I'm not sure where the new one is.

My mom started at Wetumpka High School this year (after 10 years at Prattville Jr High). It's a new county, so she lost her tenure. Let the insane apprehension begin until she's tenured again ...

P.S. Did you ever see the "yada yada" scene with Elaine on Seinfeld? Every time I read your title I think of it.

Reply to your Note: Middlesex is about a hermaphrodite... how s/he came to be and what it was like to be born and grow and discover themself. Very compelling writing. And, yup, I was an Oprah book choice.

I'm just glad you're back at work like the rest of us! I feel the same way about new engineer they are always so nervous and quiet and worried they are going to say something wrong.

I love you! Is that enough to make you want to write a new blog? ;-)
